A Northwest Outward Bound School fun and informative event celebrating the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our outdoor adventure community!
Now in its fourth year, this event is celebrating the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our outdoor adventure community. Join us to hear from an amazing group of leaders as they share their stories and celebrate inclusion in the outdoors.
Proceeds from the event will support Northwest Outward Bound School’s scholarship fund and the development of an outdoor leadership pathway to increase the number of women, girls, nonbinary, and BIPOC individuals in positions of leadership in the outdoors.

Maria Camargo: Maria has been an active member of the outdoor industry personally and professionally over 7 years. She was a backpacking instructor at the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound school for two years, and has since worked at REI as a bicycle technician and now Quality Bicycle Products pays the bills. She is passionate about the outdoors and in her free time is an avid trail runner, snowboarder, and cyclist, and prefers when a long adventure ends with a cold water dip. She is a currently an active member of a group called Trail Mixed Collective in Portland that is designed to break down access barriers to adventure sports for women of color and is always seeking meaningful connections through the outdoors.
Maria is also a photographer and dabbles in writing. She has a passion for telling stories through her photos and words that highlight the unique joy and experiences of adventurers with diverse backgrounds in the outdoors. She hopes that by exemplifying joy through outdoor activity in her photos, she can serve as an role model to young women of color who have not traditionally been able to see themselves in these spaces.
Halle Enyedy: Halle has been teaching and working in the outdoor industry with organizations ranging from Student Conservation Association (SCA) to Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) for over 25 years.
She enjoys teaching and empowering others, especially women. In 2017, Halle and Saveria Tilden, Founder/CEO of AdventurUs Women, met while working on a women-centered event. Halle was inspired by Saveria's drive and passion for connecting diverse groups in the outdoors.
She joined Saveria's team with the goal to create space for women to come together to learn and play through outdoor experiences. When Halle is not assisting with AdventurUs women events she can be found in Portland, Oregon where she is a canine hypnotherapist specializing in post-OP rehab and aging dog wellness.
Charley Downing: Charley has been working as the Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity for Northwest Outward Bound School since July 2022. Prior to this she was the Executive Director for an organization providing residential services for youth experiencing mental health and substance use concerns. Charley identifies as a bi-racial woman, Mother, dancer, and justice seeker. Charley is a trained mediator and has developed programming rooted in restorative practices. Her love and awe of being with the outdoors is rooted in her own care for self and community, and respect for the ancestors.
Iggy Perillo: Iggy Perillo helps leaders and educators do right by their people. Iggy’s mission is to provide the tools and skills for influential educators and leaders to leave a virtuous legacy in their work.
Iggy started WSL Leadership to get emotional intelligence skills to people in positions of influence so they can make the world a better place. Iggy trains them to do the hardest part of great work more easily. She conducts group and one-on-one coaching, masterminds and experiential workshops designed to make it simple for leaders and educators to connect with their people, create meaningful change and amplify positive culture.
In 1999, Iggy started working with the Voyageur Outward Bound School as an intern. Since then, she has worked as an instructor, course director, program support manager and trainer at VOBS and the Northwest Outward Bound School bases, including the Portland Center. Iggy is scheduled to lead a training session this summer.
